Bodily sacrifice

So I thought I'd sacrificed my eyes to my craft. I've been having the feeling of eye fatigue along with the headaches that knocked me out of much of last week. Hence yesterday's visit to the eye doc. I haven't had my eyes checked since high school, so it was definitely time.

Turns out my vision is fine. I've just been overdoing it. Who knew reading 5 books in 3 days would cause an issue? As I left for the appointment hubby said, "Make sure you tell them you read a lot. And when you say a lot, you mean A LOT." LOL! Combine that with the new laptop's ultra bright screen and there you have it...eye fatigue. Now I must take breaks every 15 minutes. Stare off into the distance. Oh boy...daydreams here I come!

Still, it was good news. I'm just hoping the tired feeling goes away.

I must add that the whole eye dilation thing is not cool. At all. I couldn't see my hands. They could have charged my credit card a bazillion dollars and I'd have signed the slip. All I could see was the wavy line, which wasn't supposed to be wavy at all. In all honesty, I felt like one of the evil characters in my latest WIP. Black eyes. I was pretty much all pupil. Freaky.

And there you have it. Exciting times in my life, you know? I'm considering wearing light sunglasses to cut the glare on my screen. But then that song pops into my head and I reconsider. "I wear my sunglasses at night..."

In other news, the edits have commenced. Hooray!

Three books in five days? Oh, wait. It was five books in three days. I think at my reading best, back in my single days, I never achieved that number.

Thanks so much for your kind comment on my blog!

I agree. It was a little overboard. And they were YA, so shorter. Still, I did very little. Very decadent. But man did I pay for it. Then again, I just HAD to finish the series. I'm anal like that. LOL

I've been on a bit of a reading hiatus lately, but think I will change that soon.

I've had to go to the eye doctor practically every year of my life because I have very bad eyesight. I've had glasses since the first grade! I've only had my pupils dilated a few times, though, and did not enjoy it. I always blink when they put drops in my eyes. And then I have to have AIR shot into my eyes to check for glaucoma, since it runs in my family. I HATE that machine!

They have anti-glare things that you can put over your screen. And you can usually turn down the brightness. At first, it feels like everything is not clear, but it's like salt in food. Once you get used to less, it feels normal.

Also, putting your palms to your eyes and gently warming your eyes does wonders. I learned it from yoga, and I doubted it. But now I do it whenever my eyes hurt or are tired. One minute of it can erase hours of pain. Rubbing your palms together first to get them warm is even better.

My eyes sure get tired by the end of the day if I don't. I get headaches, always looking at computer screens!

I hear you about eye strain. I had reading glasses as a child... but oddly enough, four years in a reading-intensive major actually CORRECTED my vision. Go figure.

If you have any advice for how to edit productively, I would be interested in hearing it... for the first time ever, I'm bothering to edit a manuscript and I'm struggling a bit.

Also, I tagged you for a meme. :)

Melissa - They stuck yellow drops in my eyes to test for the glaucoma. They made my eyes numb so it felt like I couldn't open them all the way. Weird!

Hey Spy! Thanks for the eye-warming tip. It feels really good!

Kate - I can't believe your eyes corrected themselves. How cool is that?!

Tips on productive editing huh? I'll think on that.
