Attack of the laptop-killing cup of coffee

So this morning my laptop took a hit. My new laptop. The one I have be so very careful with. There I sat, cruising my favorite blogs, hot coffee in hand. And what should attack this peaceful scene? Why, a tiny tornado--otherwise known as my child. He dove into my lap, but I somehow managed to hold the cup steady. Whew. Or so I thought.

He proceeded to grab my arm and dump the entire cup into my lap. The very same lap upon which my shiny laptop sat.

PANIC!

I'm still not sure what the end result will be. Unfortunately, I take my coffee with cream and lots of sugar. Things are a bit sticky. S-T-I-C-K-Y

I've been spraying the keys with mineral water mist. It helps until they dry.

We'll see if it survives. So far it's just the keyboard sticking. Fingers crossed the keys loosen up and lappy and I have a long, fruitful relationship.

Now if you'll excuse me, I need to go press the spacebar about a million times to see if it'll unstick.

(Any typos are of no fault to the laptop in question. I assume full responsibility for my own sticky fingers.)

Oh, Anissa! Be careful. Usually they say to take out the battery and let dry. If liquid gets in, electric thingies can irrevocably short.

How do I know this? *cringe* My cat pushed my palm pilot into the bath water. It was in for a SECOND. I frantically pressed the power button, tried to plug it in, and it didn't work.

Went online, googled, and learned that's exactly what NOT to do, LOL. Let it dry, battery out, then hope for the best.

*sigh*

I actually haven't told my husband yet that I irrevocably ruined the $250 birthday present he got last year, the same birthday present which he pretty much let me have, later. And now none of us have it. :-( I'm too chicken to tell him!

Those conspiring cups of coffee - we need them so much and, yet, when we're not looking they turn on us!

We've had a toddler superyard set up around our computer for years. Our littlest one just matured enough to know better and we've finally taken it down. But, I tell ya, that superyard was the NUMBER ONE BEST MOTHER'S DAY PRESENT EVER!
;)

Spy! You may have saved me. Upon reading your comment, I immediately unplugged and disconnected the battery. Things have dried out and with the help of a whole lot of moist q-tips, the keyboard is functioning as well. :) Yay!

I was, alas, very sorry to hear about your Palm. :(

Thanks, Melissa. Fingers crossed.

Kimber - That is such a good idea! Unfortunately, I'm all over the place with my laptop. I need a portable barrier that attaches to my butt. ;)
