The bean post...at last

So I think I've mentioned a few times how much I adore beans. It all started with Deb at Smittenkitchen.com made something with beans and mentioned getting them from Rancho Gordo. So I looked up this mysterious Rancho Gordo. OMG! I had no idea there were so many different types of beans. I went a little crazy. Every time I order I can't just pick a couple. I pick them all. And hominy. And ground red chile. Oooh, together with Rio Zape beans the hominy and chile make an amazing posole. So yes. I am loving me some beans. The proof is in the picture. These beauties arrived yesterday.

I must have been really excited. Look how I ripped open the box! LOL. According to UPS, it weighed 32 pounds.

So this is how the arrival of the beans went down. Box arrives, and I am so happy. Wee...happy! Hey, I think, I just signed up for twitter. I'll go tweet about my beans. *scampers off* Suddenly the sound of paper shredding interrupts the tweeting. I race to the bean box to find devil puppy digging. Inside the box. He's having a ball, shredding paper, ripping open bags. Beans are flying until. "What are you doing?!" I scream. That stopped him. Unfortunately, the damage was done. I spent an hour sorting the loose beans by type. The irony of which was not lost on me...I used to be a "bean counter" before the kidlets came along.

But the beans survived. Last night we had Escarole and beans soup made with lovely fat cannellinis. Yum.

Now, does this look like a bean destroyer to you? Getting big, isn't he?

I love the irony, and I think Bean Destroyer is the name of your puppy's heavy metal band.

I am jealous of your twittering abilities. I have an account, but for some reason I am afraid to use it. Why, Twitter? Why do you torture me so?

The puppy is so cute, and the bean package would excite me as well.
You are a better woman than I, Anissa... Twitter scares me bad.

I love beans too but I have to say, the pic of the puppy wins. ;)

ROFL! Beans excitement alone makes for a funny post topic, but throw in an adorable puppy and we have a real winner!! Love it! :-)

Your puppy is so cute. Yesterday my own little she devil popped my son's favorite ball. There was much, much drama. But oh they are cute :)

@Julie, Bean Destroyer would be a great band name! Don't fear twitter. You would be the best twitter of all I can already imagine the witty tweets you will create. Come on!

@roxy, yay for another bean lover. :) Don't let twitter scare you. Then again, I'm probably doing it wrong. LOL!

@Jonathon - Yeah, I think I'll keep him. ;)

@LT, puppies always win. Poor beans.

@Shannon, Glad to oblige. ;)

@DL, We probably have opposite feeling for meat too. To each his own I guess. All I'l say is...go beans!

@Summer, Thanks! Now I'm craving posole, though I just made it Friday. Mmmm...

@Crystal, they are that. Saves them every time, doesn't it?

32 pounds of beans! Now how fast will you eat them?

Sydnee said...

Wow... 32 pounds, huh? I rarely have beans... my first experience with them was the re-fried mess they put on quesadillas and burritos, and I so was not into that. I haven't been able to eat them since, though if they're not the main ingredient and are just sprinkled in the dish, I can cope. I wish I liked them, though... they're so good for you. :(

Your puppy is adorable. That classic "Who, me?" look reminds me of when my dog was a puppy and shredding innocent stuffed animals. Poor things never stood a chance.
