<------- Welcome!
I love it! I love meeting new people, and you can be sure I'll be around each of your blogs to say hello.
And as requested...Puppy!
Can't you just read his mind? "What you lookin at?"
So it's day three in my quest to blog everyday in February. Contest is going strong. Details over there ------>
Welcome new friends and old, I am happy to have you here. :) See, happy!
Today's question(s) come from Julie over at A Day in the Wife who hit me with the following: I have so many topics - I want to know if other writers have everyone they know say "OMG, you need to be published!!!" and then you get rejection after rejection from the people who would actually publish you. I want to know if there is actually a market for funny mom writing anymore, or is it too saturated? I want to know how to get the Query Fairy to come to my house and rubber stamp the perfect venue for the pieces I've written on them...is that enough? Oh, and what IS the best party you've ever attended?
Let's tackle these, shall we? Reader participation is always greatly appreciated.
I have to say, most people don't tell me, "OMG, you need to be published!!!" I wish they did. LOL! Alas, I'm not nearly as funny as Julie. Seriously. She cracks the crap out of me with every post. Even her questions are funny, as you can surely see. You should check her out. She says the things we all (well, me at least) are thinking, but are too prude to say. She's funny as hell.
But back to the questions. Like yesterday's word of the day, Patience, today also has a theme. Persistence. I think there is a market for funny mom writing. I think there is a market for everything. Nothing is off limits. It's finding that market, finding that person who can launch your career, who believes in you as a writer. Finding that person? Freaking hard! But don't give up. Julie or any of you. Do. Not. Give. Up. You hear me? Or I will hunt you down! No quitters!
As for the Query Fairy. I think girlfriend left town. Seriously, skipped out. Partying with the Tooth Fairy or Tinkerbell or something. But not to fear! I have a solution. Me! I will be the Fairy. Whee! Anyone wanting a little query critique, feel free to email it to me. I'll post it and we'll discuss in comments (and I'll take it down afterward, if requested). Now realize I'm not agented. I'm not an expert in any way, but I have had pretty good success with the queries I've sent out. Unfortunately, the novels they represented weren't up to snuff, which is why I keep working. ;) The offer stands, if you're interested.
And finally, on to the best party I ever attended. Hmmm. I guess this is where I own up to being totally lame. Not a whole lot of parties happening in my world. The best, I would have to say, was the surprise 30th birthday party hubby threw for me. Super sweet!
And so we come to the end of day 3. Woot! Remember to toss those questions into your comments. Not only do they earn you extra entries, they're fun!

Persistence.
I haven't heard that word in a while. He was off taking shots in a saloon for the last few months, while I dreamed about being off in a saloon taking shots.
Isn't blogging everyday a drag? Some days I cannot contain everything I want to say in a manageable number of words. Then, the next day, I find myself using gimmicks like photos (I use the puppies one too, a lot) and videos.
So, question: besides requesting questions to get ideas for posts, what other processes do you go through to get inspired?
Jonathon - You are hilarious!
I feel like my posts these past few days have be super long. Please tell me if that's the case. Hate to be too verbose. Pictures chop things up nicely though. ;)
So far, as you can see, the questions are keeping me going this month. I do have a few other topics up my sleeve, so I'll get your question up soon. Thanks!
Oooh! Send the query fairy over to my house when you're done with her.
Persistence. I was just discussing this with my critique partner yesterday. I think part of the "thick skin" that writers need to develop is composed of good old-fashioned stubbornness.
Karen - You're 100% right. Don't tell my kindergartener I said so, but stubbornness and persistence totally rhyme.
Ha! Don't ever say you're not funny! I laughed through your post. But loved the way you weaved in such beautiful encouragement. Thank you for that. Persistence and Patience--a must in this business.
By the way, OMG you need to be published!!
Carolina! Ha! You make my day. :)
Thank you for this today. Sometimes you just need to hear it.
There's a query fairy????? She's never been to my house.
I love that persistence is the partner for patience. I need to remember that.
If a query fairy exists, she exists over at the querytracker. Elana J. and Suzette Saxton are miracle workers. Really. And Elana wrote a fabulous book on creating the perfect query that I am LOVING.
The query fairy just got in a big fight with the tooth fairy. Her wings were damaged so it will be a while til she's up for house calls again.
You ARE the Query Fairy! And the Self Esteem Fairy and the Aw Shucks Fairy all rolled into one! The Rejection Troll needs to buy you a drink!
Thanks Anissa - for the encouragement, obviously, but for such great blog topics this month. These are all of those basic tools every writer needs in their toolbox. You are the shizzle!
I'm doing the Erma Bombeck conference in Dayton in April, and probably the Iowa City Summer Workshop in June - post if anyone else is going!
Oops. Um. Yeah... about the Query Fairy. She is.. well...
Ok, I'll admit it. She's locked up in my basement. And I'm not even done my first draft, so she's going to be indisposed for quite some time.
My apologies.
Carry on.
*Snickers* I can just picture the Query Fairy tossing back a few drinks with the Tooth Fairy:)
Okay, questions: How many completed books do you have? How many do you have that are not finished? And how do you know when an idea is just not going to work?
Hi Natalie!! I love your blog, and your voice is wonderful. So cheerful and funny :) People tell me I should be published, but I've just begun submitting things for publication. So far, two short stories rejected, one published. But I'm trying my hand at a novel, so I'll have more to say on the subject of query and rejection letters in the future. LOL
Thanks for following me, and you'll see my smiling face on your left margin momentarily! Good luck blogging all 28 days of February -- you can do it!!
Anissa!!! I don't know why I called you Natalie????? I'm such a ding-bat this morning! Forgive me, sweetie -- I clearly could use another cup of coffee! (*reaches for her mug as she clicks 'post'*)
((hugs)) Nicole
That puppy is so cute! patience and persistence - two things I'm sadly lacking much of - you're so right though. I think I need the persistence fairy right now - haven't written in a few days.
I always have to be reminded of this. Thanks
awww! Look at that puppy!
I'm glad you stopped by my blog so i, in turn, stopped by yours! Yay new blogs!
