Now that's a lot of paper

Look what I have. Hot off the Laserjet. 366 pages of paranormal YA goodness (I hope!)

Yes, I printed out Skinwalkers. It was time. I keep scrolling through the document aimlessly editing. I needed to feel it in my hands. I need to see it as a whole. It's time.

Now I'm ready. I have a new pack of felt-tip pens,(Green is so my favorite editing color) and I'm all set.

That's 90K words, if anyone was wondering, and the ending is not yet complete. I'm hoping to cut some fat this time through, even if I only cut 5 words per page. I'm determined to keep this puppy under 90K if at all possible. My preference would be 85K.

Wish me luck. I'd love to say I'm tackling it this very minute, but alas there is housework to be done. Drat.

Write on, my friends.

@Tina, Thanks! I've been admiring it sitting there all pristine and white. But not for long!

What a beautiful stack!

Whoa. It looks so...orderly. And it has that First Day of School Supplies look about it.

Be sure to take a few minutes, sit across from the table, and Behold. 90K is a lot of words, and you got them out of your head and on paper, and that is truly spectacular! Whoo-hooo!

What a great feeling--I love a tangible, weighty reward for my work!

Great title, too!!! Best of luck with that green pen.

Darn that housework! I print out my ms all the time. I have to edit it in print. I have a hard time doing it on the screen. My kids get onto me for wasting paper, but I have started printing on the back sides, and I do recycle. It's the only way I can do it.

Okay, after looking at that picture, I want to sit down at your pretty table to read your manuscript, too. I'm excited for you-- after your housework is done, that is. Reading from paper is so very different from revising on the computer. Good luck on the work ahead!

What a nice pile! I will be printing my baby soon too. Good luck!

I should get a laser printer. If I tried to print my MS out it would take FOREVER. Good luck with edits!

Wow it's so pretty!!!!! It looks so beautiful and in order... I bet by now it's not so much... oh but isn't that the joy of editing!

Good luck down-sizing!!!

Good for you! Why is it always housework that gets in the way? It never is anything fun (at least that's how it is with me!). Good luck!

Omigosh! Look at that! It's a BOOK!!!!

I am in awe of its loveliness and wishing I were anywhere near that stage. :)

Rock on with your edits! You are getting CLOSE!!!

I see that stack sitting there and all I can think is...I sure hope a stiff breeze doesn't come along. :)

I know what you mean about needing to feel it in your hands, the weight of it, wetting your fingers before you turn each page. It's almost as if it doesn't seem until then.

Good luck! There's nothing better than shiny white pages just begging to be scrawled on!

Ahh! So exciting! Good luck!

Isn't that gorgeous! So glad you shared.

I was thrilled the first time I saw my book printed out. It was...book-sized! And real! And I wrote it!

I haven't edited the printed version yet, but I started at 100K and am now down to 90K... I'm trying to get close to 85K, but 87K is more realistic I think.

Good luck!!!!

WOW~! There it is. Your novel! I agree with you, there's just something about feeling it in paper form that makes it more substantial somehow. It sort of hits you in the face like: "Wow. I wrote a novel." There are a lot of people out there who say they're writers yet don't have the determination and patience to do what you've done, so feel proud!! Good luck with the revisions :)

I think you will find editing from a printout to be a very helpful thing. If you haven't done it before. Reading aloud helps, too!

Oh! It's so pretty!

Our manuscript had crept up to 85,000 pages and we were able to cut 13,000 words. It's a little terrifying that we had 13,000 EXTRA words, but there you have it. Good luck and happy editing!

Green is my color too! It's funny, almost all of the people I critique for have complimented the color choice.

Way to go Anissa! That's great.

Yeah green is a pretty awesome editing color. Hope you get that housework done pronto so you can get onto the important stuff.

Good luck, Anissa! They look so pretty and proud, sitting there!

There's nothing like having a physical copy of your manuscript. I love doing paper edits. Unfortunately, they're too expensive to do that often. Have fun!

Anissa said...

Thanks for all the encouragement. :) I love seeing that beautiful stack of words. Not quite so clean anymore, but still pretty.

And Yay for green editing pens!

Carolina Valdez Miller said...

Oh yes, you can do it! You can! And jsut think how far 5 words a page will get you. No problems!!

Good luck, sweets!

P.S. Your manuscript looks beeeeeeautiful.

I can't wait to get to the point where I can justify printing out the entire thing! I'm sure it's an exciting feeling.

Congratulations! Edit away and have a great time!

Isn't it amazingly cool to see your whole WIP printed out? Congrats on all the hard work you've already invested in that manuscript! Regarding the fat cutting, it's easier to cut than add, IMHO. Though neither is easy, really.

(And good luck with the housework, which is a drag. I'm posting late, but it seems housework is never done.)

Awesome! Nothing like feel of something you created in your hands. Good luck with edits.
