What haunts you?

This image haunts me. It speaks to me in ways I cannot understand. Almost like I know the place, have been there before, and yet I know I haven't.

Something waits just beyond the mist. I do not know what. I only know that every ounce of my being wants to go there. I linger on the edge, a dream away from slipping through. I can feel the moisture--the dew on the ferns, the damp in the air. It is so close, and yet so far away.

I'm sure many of you recognize the photo. It is a stock image that came on my laptop. I have a group of them set as my screensaver, which means every so often this image pops up. It stops me every single time. It haunts me.

I think there is a story here. Something wants out of me. I just don't know what it is yet.

Does this ever happen to you? Do images speak to you?

Yes. The right nature photo can effect me that way. There is a photo in yesterday's blog post at scobberlotch that haunts me. Gorgeous!

Photos like that are the one's that drive me on my certain novel. For the collector I have day time forest and trail photos and also eerie night time ones. They haunt me, intrigue me, all I want to do is write when I see them, write what I feel, what others might feel.

It's amazing how something can move you!

Anissa you had me hooked.I want you to figure out that story so I can hear more! Wonderful writing.
I see a lot of images that move me paintings, drawings and photos, usually of people or living things. And I am so moved but I sometimes don't know why. It's usually the images that show relationships that intrigue me the most. I would really like to know more about your novel Skinwalkers :)

All the time. The image you posted is similar to a huge black and white print that I have framed and hanging above my bed - we have cathedral ceilings that are about 13 ft high so it hangs in that space and demands to be seen. You can see it here: http://www.allposters.com/-sp/Into-the-Light-Posters_i308691_.htm
although the small version that shows up is not nearly as stunning as the big, real print. It speaks to me. I want to know what is down the path...

I love music, and it often puts me in the writing mood, but I don't get a lot of my ideas from actual lyrics or songs. My favorite "put me in the writing mood" album is Queen II (by Queen), but it's a very love-it-or-hate-it album. They swear it's not a concept album, but I see the entire story of it in my head every time I listen to it. And it makes me want to write write write.

In my old house where I had a writing desk, I also had pictures of very haunting or inspiring pictures hanging all around my desk. They were all nature scenes or close-ups. :)

Yes, images do that to me too.

Yes. Images do speak to me. I posted about it recently, too. But I like this one. You're right: it's what's hidden that's most evocative.

Look up pictures of urban decay. Some of the old mansions and warehouse photos are moving.

Yes, yes, yes. Love this image. I love that you don't know what's there, that it calls you forth o explore, and yet it makes you take a step back, a bit afraid. It seems to trigger several different emotions at once. So evocative.

I love that picture! Makes me want to wonder down that path and seek out that which is just beyond the mist. Another thing that always gets to me is a full moon in the midst of scattered clouds. Now I'm trying to figure out how to use that image in my WIP because the emotions that it stirs in me would be perfect for the turmoil going on with my characters.

That eerie yet beautiful setting has so many story possibilities! Photos can be a good jump start if you need an idea for setting, character, even plot!

Images definitely make me feel and think. I love the fog in this picture. I wish I could step inside because it reminds me of an arboretum near the home I grew up in.

Yes, I do this! I believe it's my subconscious telling me there is an otherworldly connection I don't understand. So I understand the story thing.

That image speaks to me loud and clear. A great place for chasing baboons.

Love that picture! Definitely write-worthy. Get on it - I want to read the story that goes with it. :)

That picture does feel like it has a story to tell. That happens to me too. It also happens to me with songs.

i do - but mine all have lamp posts in them. Must have to do with how many times I read the Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe as a kid. ;)
