Think Twice

If ever one should hear the words, "If you've ever wanted to try dark hair, now's the time to do it," while sitting in the salon chair admiring one's new pixie cut...my advice to you is to think twice.

Lovin the cut, not so lovin the color. In defense of my friend and stylist, it's a gorgeous color. But what would have been a dark blond/light brown on most people is DARK brown on me. Yikes! It'll fade, I guess. And considering most of my hair is less than three inches long, it'll grow out before long.

Pictures forthcoming.

Rewards

I love these.

And just by coincidence (sure!) turquoise plays an important role in Navajo culture. Considering that the Navajo figure strongly in my current WIP, I'm thinking I may treat myself once the revisions are complete and Skin hits the query circuit. Motivation, you know?

Things are progressing. It's spring break for the Professor, which means a week without preschool. It's kind of nice not to have to rush around in the mornings. Plus, he keeps the little monkey entertained. All of this has translated to a little more time for Mama. I'm capitalizing on it whenever possible. Like now.

So here I go. Off to edit. I may even tape a picture of these rings to my laptop. Soon, my pretties, you will be mine!

Revisions

I have yet to write the post I promised on how I edit. But the good news here is that instead of writing the post, I have actually been doing the editing. There's a ways to go. I have a terrible tendency to skip portions that need work simply because I'm not ready to tackle them. I'll get there though. Eventually.

At least now I've been through the entire story, which is indeed my first step in revising. I like to go through the entire novel looking at the story--how it flows, where the structure can be improved, things like that. It is terribly hard for me to ignore the words. I'm a born tweaker. Don't get me wrong. I do change some verbiage, but mostly I try to ignore the detail work until later. The first pass is for flow.

Okay, so this was not the post I plan to write, but at least something writing related on this lovely Thursday morning. I almost said spring, but is it spring yet? Technically, I don't think so. It is here in Arizona. Spring Training is in full swing and the weather is lovely. Oh, and the seasonal allergies hit...always a sign of spring in my book.

6 Things You May Not Know About Me

Kate tagged me for a meme, which is lovely because it gives me a topic for today. Actually in her comment previously she asked for editing tips, so that'll be a post this week too. Not that I'm an expert or anything. Heck, half the time I can't seem to follow my own advice. But there you go.

Okay, so on to the meme. According to Kate, these are the rules:

1. You link back to the person who tagged you.
2. Post these rules on your blog.
3. Share six unimportant things about yourself.
4. Tag six random people at the end of your entry.
5. Let the tagged people know by leaving a comment on their blogs.

This kind of makes me laugh. Six things you might not know about me. Shouldn't be hard considering most of you don't know me in the real world. Then I got to thinking. You know what? A lot of who I am is on here, and you all know me better than some people in my "real" life. I don't often share that I'm a writer. When I do, it inevitably turns into a weird conversation where people say things like, "You wrote a whole book and now you want to write another?" Yep. Tough to explain. But not to you all, which I think is pretty damn cool.

Anyway...

Without further ado, my six unimportant items:

1. I can touch my nose with my tongue. Weird, but true.

2. I was born with stick straight hair. About five years ago my thyroid decided to wig out on me. One of the unexpected side effects is that I now have wavy hair in back. Straight in front and on the sides, but a freaking mess in the back. All I can say is thank God for the flat iron. CHI makes the BEST one, if you're interested. ;) On a happy note, my crazy thyroid went into remission all by its little self. But it just goes to show, don't mess with hormones.

3. I'm afraid to count the number of shoes I own. If I don't know, I don't feel guilty buying more. Clearly I have a problem. No I don't! See...denial.

4. The weed in my back yard are so out of control a child could get lost in them. Not really. I hope. Eek!

5. Someone telling me I cannot do something is the single most effective motivator I've ever known. Seriously. It drives me nuts! In high school someone came to speak to us about college and the funding options available. They told us that it was impossible to get a full ride academically (including room & board, etc). I set out to personally prove them wrong...and succeeded. Somehow my parents weren't surprised. I guess I'm just stubborn like that.

6. In the time it has taken me to write this post I have eaten half a box of Thin Mints. Blast you Girl Scouts!

So there you have it folks. As for the tagging...I'm not sure I know 6 random people who haven't already been tagged. Here's what I'll do. If you're feeling random today, give it a go. But make sure to leave a comment so I can come check it out.

Thank you, and good night!
